Jack's Training for Boston

No, he's not training for the "Boston" marathon, although cousin, Paul could help. The boys are getting indoctrinated as New England fans as they play in the front yard with their new Patriots football from cousins Griffin and Wynne. Jack has such an arm - its awesome him to watch him throw the ball. He continues giggling at all times, or at least until he gets "hurt". Then he hurries over to one of us for a kiss. For all I read about kids who were institutionalized not acknowledging pain...he loves to have every boo-boo recognized. I will never complain though because I love to give him kisses.

He's really learning to understand English. He knows to sit down, stop running, come when called, got to the potty, go night-night and my favorite, give kisses.

I am adopting a son (dob 8/5/05, LID 3/27/07) from the same institute, with the same repaired cleft lip/open palate special needs. Would you mind answering some questions about your son's life in the institute, so I can understand where BeiLee will be developmentally? Thank you, Susan Wilham,

Susan,

I am so excited for you! We say everyday how lucky we are that Jack received amazing care at Rongxian Social Welfare Institute. The director and his staff are really incredible. Jack clearly experienced love while he was growing up. He is the happiest little guy.

From a developmental standpoint, Jack is agile and active. You will get an overview of your son's developmentally status. I can say Jack seems on target with most things. He knows how to use a fork and spoon, but we've caused him to regress a bit by feeding him for bonding purposes. He holds a pencil and colors.

I think the biggest difference between Jack and any other 2.5 year old would be language. He relies on non-verbal communication because he can't form clear words. He may be speaking Chinese, but our guide couldn't understand him. He's learned a few English words but when he says them he sounds a bit like someone who is deaf but has learned to speak.

I am more than happy to answer any questions you have. Please email me and I will give you my phone number. We should make sure we stay in touch because the boys will have grown up together.

Congratulations!

Caroline

That would be great. My personal Email is Wilhams1@hotmail.com. And I would love for BeiLee to continue to have contact with his first family--I spent quite a bit of yesterday getting to know Jack and Olivia and trying to picture life in the institute. It made me so relieved that they seemed so personally invested in Jack's future care.
