3-2-1 Go For Launch of Shuttle Atlantis

We hit the beach across the road from Nana and Grampie's house for the shuttle launch. Grampie brought a radio down so we could listen to the countdown. We arrived just in time for T-Minus 5 minutes.

The boys used the countdown to start a sand castle that Hunter called Patrick's house (from Sponge Bob Square Pants).

The shuttle is lifting off in this picture, but its hard to see. Its in between Jack's head and Hunter's shoulder.

This captures Jack's initiation as a Floridian. As a child of Florida's Space Coast, we hope he will feel the same pride and thrill we do during a safe launch.

We are only about 30 miles south of Kennedy Space Center. When the shuttle lifts off the rumble it generates travels across the water with tremendous clarity. I snapped this picture just as the rumble started. Jack was caught off guard, but got excited quickly.

Jack cheered and clapped for the successful launch of STS-117 - Atlantis.

Godspeed brave astronauts!
